Correct the witches gave them both one. Only one will make it happen for themselves. Macbeth will make it happen for himself to become king and Banquo will not try he will just want it to fall or be given to him.
Macbeth was promised to gain various titles and rule as king. Banquo was predicted to enjoy success as well. Macbeth is not standing idle and letting fate to fall in his own lap.
I believe Macbeth will make his prophecy become true because once he told his wife of his incident with the witches, she reassures him that it will come true.
Macbeth is now questioning whether he believes in prophecies or destiny. I think he should leave it all alone and let everything fall into place on it's own.
So far, we've only dealt with the 3 witches, but no Hecate right? She's the puppet master or queen?
Also, Thane of Cawdor and Macdonwald lost their battles, but wasn't the King of Norway involved? Did I miss something or did he just go on about his business?
In response to Ron and Garrett: You didn't miss anything. After Sweno paid the $10,000 ransom for his dead men, he obviously just sailed back to Norway. Shakespeare often leaves what we consider to be unfinished business. Perhaps if I were a Shakespearean scholar, I could provide better answers, but, alas, I am not now, nor will I ever be. :)
The witches gave prophecies for both Macbeth and Banquo? What were they? Whom do you think will act to make his prophecy come true?
ReplyDeleteThe witches said that Macbeth would be Thane of Glamis, Thane of Cawdor and King.
ReplyDeleteMacbeth seems to be making his prophecy come true.
Macbeth killed Duncan to be king right? He's not in line next though..how's he going to be king? Who's next in line?Is he gonna kill them too?

ReplyDeleteHannah, let's just wait until we finish Act 2, and I think all will be made clear. If not, I'll answer them then.

Did Duncan's sons find him dead? Is that why Macbeth said he heard them saying "Amen," and "God bless us?"
ReplyDeleteIn response to Ron:
ReplyDeleteIt would seem that Sweno would have fled the field. Was there something in the play about that? Mrs. Cynthia?
Somebody go start Banquo's profile..I'm having trouble recalling much about him

ReplyDeleteWill macbeth get over run with power? We will see. It already seems that way.
ReplyDeleteI wonder whats going to happen to lady Macbeth for doing her end of the evil plot!
ReplyDeleteI wonder is the witches going to kill Macbeth or The Goddess of Witchcraft. Its says noone immortal.
ReplyDeleteWas what the witches told Macbeth and Banquo something that was bound to happen or was it something that had to be acted on to actually happen?
ReplyDeleteTogether Macbeth and his wife make a perfect murderer.
